In this custom gunstock project, a customer provided a beautifully shaped blank stock and requested a distinctive checkering pattern inspired by the iconic pre-64 Model 70 Super Grade Winchester. The objective was to enhance the stock's aesthetics and grip with this classic design. I began by studying the unique features of the original checkering pattern, which is known for its intricate diamond shapes and deep cuts. Using precision tools, I carefully laid out and executed the checkering, ensuring each diamond was crisp and uniform while maintaining the integrity of the stock's contours. The result is a stunning combination of craftsmanship and nostalgia, transforming the blank stock into a one-of-a-kind piece that pays homage to the legendary Winchester design, while providing the customer with an exceptional grip and visual appeal.
